aam admi bima yojana provides death and disability insurance cover to marginal sections of society
Social welfare department Jammu
and Kashmir is established to safeguard the interests of poor and downtrodden
sections of society i.e. people living below the poverty line and people belonging
to backward classes such as Scheduled Caste (SC), Other Backward Classes (OBC),
Physically Challenged Persons (PCP), Economically Backward Classes (EBC)
and De-notified Tribes (DNT).
Social welfare department launched numerous
schemes for the welfare of poor and distressed. One of them is the Aam Aadmi Bima Yojana Scheme (AABYS) scheme. The details of this scheme are as below:
ABOUT SCHEME
The
AABYS scheme provides death and disability insurance cover to marginal sections
in case the head of the family or one earning member of the household becomes
disabled due to an accident or dies due to a natural/accidental cause.
Earlier
this, the scheme was confined to Rural Landless Households only in the age
group of 18 to 59 years because
of that the coverage was not up-to the mark and the desired targets
were not achieved. Now as per modified guidelines, it is expected that more and
more eligible beneficiaries will be covered and brought under the purview of
the scheme. Moreover, the urban poor persons living below poverty line are also
included in the scheme.
A
fresh survey was conducted in all the Districts of Kashmir Division including
the Districts of Leh and Kargil. The district-wise number of eligible
beneficiaries to be covered was taken up with the Administrative Department.
