high court directed all cinema halls in Jammu to allow cinema-goers to carry their
food and water along with them. The order is issued in response to public
interest litigation filed by a small group of lawyers from Jammu by a bench of Justice Tashi Rabstan and Justice Sanjay
Kumar Gupta.
In their PIL the lawyers brought to the notice of the court
that every cinema hall in Jammu and Kashmir disallow outside food and water
inside the theatre premises and they have pasted notices at their entry gates
displaying “No outside food and beverages allowed inside the theatre premises”
and they even made frisking points to ensure that no one will carry any kind of
eatables with them. If security guards found any kind of food material in
pockets or bags of moviegoers the instruct the remove the same irrespective of
the fact that the food items that are found in search might be some nutritious the diet prescribed by some dietician or doctor. The theatre owners have framed
their own rules and they force movie lovers to eat what they want at
excessively high prices.
